The Living English concept has been designed to facilitate formal and informal learning and motivate learners to progress and achieve.

Students vary in age, background and reason for learning and meeting the diverse needs of clients is a key aim. Whether it is different nationalities, linguistic skill levels, career aims or age groups, our programmes are tailored to suit your exact needs. A key success factor is building long lasting relationships with all our clients. The sections below outline in detail how we achieve this.

Location, Facilities and Resources TLC is located in the centre of Llandudno opposite Trinity Church. The Centre is conveniently housed on the top floor of a converted Victorian building which is now an office block. There are two classrooms, offices, toilet and a kitchen. The classrooms are well equipped with modern furniture, computers, recorders, speakers and digital display boards. In addition to learning materials prepared by the teachers, there is a good variety of books, worksheets and digital learning tools available for students to use both in class and independently. Staff and Teachers TLC is a family run company; the majority of the day to day business is run by the husband and wife team of Raquel and Lloyd. In addition they employ a number of staff on a full and part time basis. Teaching staff are well qualified and experienced in language teaching, most are TEFL/TESOL qualified. All staff have an ‘enhanced’ police background check certificate. Working with our Partners Trinity Language School and Trinity Accommodation Centre have established Memoranda of Cooperation with key institutions regionally. This enables TLC to offer a wider range of programmes in different locations on a partnership basis. English as Foreign Language (EFL)/English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Whether you are planning to visit, settle or work in the UK or other English speaking countries developing the English language is one of the most important skills you can acquire.

The majority of English Language programmes offered at Trinity focus on English as a Foreign Language (EFL), although bespoke ESOL programmes can be designed and delivered to meet the needs of specific client groups wishing to settle and work in the UK.

See Programmes and Courses for more details of courses, programmes and prices here.

Language Delivery

All students are screened on arrival to ascertain their current language level and language career aims. This will include a brief written test and/or informal spoken review. For certain clients and groups, testing will take place prior to arrival and through face to face interviews. From this process an individual learning plan is drawn up which focuses on skills and knowledge to be developed and the learning strategy to be adopted.

Depending on the group size and other factors language classes may be from Beginners to Advanced level and mixed nationality and/or mixed ability. In all cases teachers will plan lessons according to group needs and will adopt an inclusive and differentiated delivery and learning style.

Classes range from 1:1 to mixed ability of up to 12 students in one group. English classes normally take place for 3 hours each morning (with a 15 minute break); however the centre can arrange the time and duration of classes to suit your availability and requirements. Depending on the duration of the course and the level of learner, schemes of work will focus on developing students’ speaking, reading, listening and writing skills. In the main, courses will develop English Language skills for living and working. Academic English courses are available on request, including Business English IELTS preparation and other accredited language programmes.

Accreditation and Certification

TLC will be seeking British Council accreditation during 2017. Successful accreditation will enable the Centre to continue to develop and expand its markets and partnership work.

All students attending learning programmes at Trinity will receive a short report on their language and personal progress and an updated action plan for future reference, along with a certificate of participation including a learning transcript.

Courses leading to external examination programmes, IELTS, FCE, City and Guilds and IBT are available on request in conjunction with our partner language school and college.

Living English

TLC has developed a unique approach to language learning. The ‘Living English’ concept involves a totally inclusive approach to learning where participants live and study together to improve their language development skills. From breakfast to bedtime, participants are encouraged to continually develop their English. During afternoons and evenings, informal games, activities, excursions and visits will be planned and delivered to develop language skills, as well as ensuring participants have fun and make friends.

Clients

TLC welcomes clients of all ages and language abilities to learn at the Centre. Many clients come as part of a group from a school, college or family. The accommodation facilities enable students from the ages of 8 plus to study with us.

Our clients include:

Children from 8-11

Children can study at the Centre as individuals, in family groups or in school and tour groups. TLC’s founder Raquel is highly experienced in running childcare facilities and makes sure children have plenty of opportunities to enjoy themselves playing with local children at childcare centres and summer camps. The Living English approach is particularly effective with this age range as it makes learning lively and fun. Children under the age of 14 will be supervised at all times by centre staff; care is taken to ensure children are not exposed to unsupervised contact with adults who are not TLC staff or contractors.

Teenagers and Youth Groups from 12- 17

TLC welcomes teenagers and youth groups from schools, colleges, youth organisations and families. The Centre’s experience with teenagers means we tailor our packages to give the highest level of enjoyment as well as the highest level of progression in their English language learning. We also offer our accommodation to student groups of this age range. Our Living English approach includes a number of language related activities and sessions designed specifically with teenagers in mind. There are opportunities for teenage students to meet young people locally through sporting activity, youth clubs and summer camps which can be arranged upon request.

Adults (18 plus)

Whether for work, education or for pleasure TLC can be flexible in responding to the needs of adult clients. ‘One to one’ classes, short courses or up to 6 months study can be provided, combining work placements or other study options if you wish. The Centre can also cater for family groups where adults can study alongside their children.
